Grief Can Be Lonely - But You Don’t Have to Go Through It Alone

Grief Can Be Lonely - But You Don’t Have to Go Through It Alone

July 27, 2022

Grief is, unfortunately, a human experience that touches us all at some point in our lives. Since its inception in 2014, Grief Awareness Day (Aug. 30) aims to open up dialogue around loss and bereavement to help those who are suffering.

Losing a loved one is incredibly difficult, and grief can be a lonely feeling. But you don’t have to go through it alone.

At Charter, we recognize that grief is an emotion families and patients may experience throughout all stages of a life-limiting disease. Our experienced care teams ensure those we serve have emotional and spiritual support as part of each individualized plan of treatment.

But our work doesn’t end after the loss of a loved one. As an extension of our mission to provide compassionate care, Charter provides bereavement services to families for 13 months following their loss. Grief support groups are a key component of our bereavement program, bringing together people who are dealing with similar feelings and challenges.

Charter’s grief support groups provide a supportive and empathetic environment to help participants process their feelings. Our bereavement experts facilitate discussions and provide guidance for tackling difficulties you may be facing in daily life while processing your grief.

We hear often that family members find sharing their feelings with others in a safe, supportive environment is helpful in many ways. Grief support groups provide a haven for discussing loss and its accompanying challenges while also serving as a resource for discovering new tools for coping. Having a sounding board for the complexities of grief can help you manage stress and may even help you feel empowered as you constructively deal with your grief.

The grieving process takes time and it’s okay to feel a wide range of emotions. It’s important to recognize that grieving can take a toll and to realize you are not alone in dealing with the difficulties that come from losing someone you care about.
